The difference between a phrase sampler and "real sampler" is the quality of
hardware and the features. A phrase sampler will take a sound (a sample) and
won't allow you to alter it too much. What you put is generally what you get
out. A "real" sampler allows you editing features and storage that you can't
get on a phrase sampler. A "real" sampler can come with an FX board (lots of
FX - delays, reverbs, distortions, phasers, etc), wave editing capabilities -
filters, pitchshifting, timestretching, and even some looping. My
understanding is that phrase samplers tend to be somewhat noisy - at least
that is a lot of complaints that I have heard. Up to you with what you want
to do with it.
Even with the a3000 coming down in price, I still don't think that feature
for feature and sound quality, it can compete with the ESI4000. If someone
knows otherwise, please let me know. I have done significant research and
this is the conclusion I have reached. Is it not correct?
