I also use a SB Live card (and an AWE32) and I do have created some soundfont banks from older synths I used to have (Yamaha DX21 and FB01, Korg Poly800) and I purchased some other soundfont banks from EMU (vintage Moog, Roland and Oberheim sounds for example).

In effect, the SB Live (and other soundfont cards) behaves like a sampler, and yes, you could sample a CS2x, but the sound quality will never be the same (plus it's a heck of a job sampling all sounds (A CS2x has 16 Mb of samples on board)). Not to mention: You would lose the great Yamaha effects.

So what I do is use the original: I can control my CS2x, AN1x, FS1r and MU100R from the RM1x if I would like to, by remapping RM1x midi channels to different ports and thus use the sounds from any of these machines, plus the SBlive and AWE32 soundfonts.

Subject: RM1x soundfonts? anyone know anything about this?

Can anyone enlighten me on the SoundFont technology?

ive just bought the SB live card and im interested in learning alittle about soundfonts.

for instance, the RM1x is basically full of sampled sounds.  With soundfonts it appears that you create your own banks full of sampled sounds that can be played back as instruments.  so, would it be possible to sample every sound from the rm1x's banks and create soundfont banks of those?

and then, if this is possible, whats stopping people from doing the same from other instruments such as the cs2x etc....

it sounds good in theory, being able to use your rm1x to control these banks thus giving your rm1x more power.....well in a way.

please, someone......enlighten me!

thanks.
