I think what Patrick is getting at is triggering patterns or groups of
patterns and having them play immediately -- as if they were a drum sample
or something. I think he might even be talking about playing them:
* asynchronously (beats do not line up),
* beat-synced (beats line up, but not bars), OR
* synchronously (bars and beats line up, so pattern
starts in the middle).
