flow that AL users expect.

This would be simply a convenience for increasing speed of sample 
playback. Now that I think about it is not an immediate requirement. 
There are other ways to get around it like preloading. However the less 
preloading the better. There woudl have to be a trade off for stability 
and performance. Maybe a config slider for setting the number of 
preloaded songs at one time or a toggle button on the sample panel.

This is for the sample buttons to be able to trigger playback from a 
midi controller. It would just be note on/off to start with but I expect 
eventually users would demand full control of all sample panel buttons.

Yep, there is a fine line between using AL in a live situation and DJing.

Probably just Hydrogen controlling other apps but most likely users will 
demand both at some point.

Exactly. The sample button is the item in the grid on the sampler 
interface. ie the red square.
