In the past two weeks, I have twice seen a single gray partridge on 260th
Street in Story County, about half a mile east of 580th Avenue. That's
about two miles southeast of Ames.

"I was anxious to see real wild and unbroken prairie[s] and soon we began
to see them, covered with waving grass and flowers. We took our time for
the trip and I walked nearly all the way full of wonder and delight at
everything that we saw." (John Fletcher Lacey describing the Iowa prairie that
he
first saw as a boy in 1854)
