Exxon Mobil, Indonesia Resume Talks on Cepu Extension (Update1)
May 25 (Bloomberg) -- Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's largest publicly
traded oil company, said it resumed ``active discussions'' with the
Indonesian government over development of the Cepu oil field.
``We're making progress,'' Exxon Mobil President Rex Tillerson told
reporters after the company's annual meeting today in Dallas. ``We have a
good, constructive engagement.''
An official with Indonesia's state-owned PT Pertamina last week said Exxon
Mobil may win rights to extend its development of Cepu. Any extension would
be for 30 years, Martiono Hadianto, chief commissioner for Pertamina, told
reporters on May 20 in Jakarta.
Hadianto said Indonesian officials don't want to wait until the contract
expires in 2010 to renew the agreement.
Shares of Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil rose 64 cents, or 1.2 percent, to
$55.68 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The stock has jumped
27 percent in the past year.
