It's distinctly IBM's dog, and a poorly designed one.  I can
hardly imagine a rationale for a 7-character limit, rather
than the logical limit of 42.  Was storage once, perhaps,
so expensive?

The same applies to the Project, Group, and Type fields on
ISPF data set menus.
