No, the word 'Veld' meaning 'field' in English - wide open flat area covered by grass and scrub, same as 'Outback' (Australia), 'Prairie' - North America, 'Pampas' - South America). (veldt is somewhat archaic and is not used much these days.) For the holding places of cattle and other livestock - the word in Afrikaans is 'kraal' (enclosure) - same as fold.
