IBM is trying to say go to SHARE or else, IMO. This myopic (there is

a ten foot tall gorilla saying do it my way or your way and I will
squash you like a ant if you do it the other way
Rubbish! IBM goes where the customers are. If the customers go to
SHARE,
IBM will go to SHARE to talk to them. Those who don't go to SHARE
or to
the zExpo must rely on the manuals.
Bob,
While that is true now it used to be that IBM regularly sent out
individuals to various cities (Chicago, NYC etc) just for those types
of classes. I don't know if they do so now, but they USED to do so.
The classes were IMO reasonably well attended and in some cases there
was a wait list. I attended such classes and always found them
useful. Once in a while an instructor did not know the material very
well, but was able to field most of the question.
I know the bean counters (where I worked) never batted an eye
spending $100 for a half day class or $250 for two day class. It was
always the out of town GUIDES (and SHARES) that got them rumbling.
Whether its better for IBM or the customer to hold such classes, I
will leave to the open issue. *GENERALLY* I thought the 1 day classes
by IBM were far superior than the GUIDE (or SHARE) sessions as they
were designed for smaller audiences (IMO). The handouts also tended
to be more informative that the GUIDE (or SHARE) (of course at times
we got those handouts) .
IBM has probably made a decision not to offer such classes anymore
and only IBM knows why.
