Ginnie, It has been awhile since I have played with HSM, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
What do you have SETSYS INCREMENTALBACKUP set to, ORIGINAL or CHANGEDONLY? If the latter, won't the BACKVOL processing reset the changed bit so that when you run AUTOBACKUP (AB) later on, only changed datasets are backed up? And wouldn't you want a backup taken if it had changed? Unless you have high update activity on these volumes, there is a fair chance the volume would be scanned (takes seconds) when AB runs and not find any eligible datasets. No harm, no foul. Is there something I'm missing? (quite possible...it really has been awhile) Bob Richards -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ginnie Nuckles Sent: Thursday, June 15, 2006 3:29 PM To: [email protected] Subject: manual incremental backups We are trying to run incremental backups on specific SMS owned volumes without having them be automatically included in our "nightly auto backup" .. I cannot find how to do this.. If we want to manually run it with the backvol command we still need to set the Auto Backup attribute value to Y which will cause the volumes in this management class to be included in the automatic backups at night (which is what we are trying to avoid).. does anyone know how to 1. Run manual incremental backups of sms owned volumes in a specific management class without having them be automatically included with all the other incremental backups that run later. thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html LEGAL DISCLAIMER The information transmitted is intended solely for the individual or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material.
