I would try idcams DELETE dataset.name FILE(volser) CAT(your.usercat) You can use the master cat instead of usercat if there is no catalog alias entry that would point to a usercat for the dataset.
OOPS, the FILE( ) would be pointing to a DD that points to the volser, not the volser itself.
