As Ed noted, 132 columns is sufficient to get 32 bytes per line when displaying storage using the LIST command (within a CLIST, REXX EXEC, etc). The difference between this display and that produced via IPCS Option 1 (BROWSE) is due to IPCS allowing one to "select" words from the storage panel. See subtopic 3.3.3.2 "Selecting words from the storage panel" in manual "z/OS V1R7.0 MVS IPCS User's Guide" for details.

I left out an important phrase in my reply. Also, I was incorrect on
the minimum number of columns required. I should've said

When using IPCS Option 1 (BROWSE) to display storage you need at least
136 columns if you want 32 bytes per line.
Hmmm. Yeah. The BROWSE function has slightly different spacing. (Why??)
It's never bothered me before. However, I agree this provides a
rationale for a screen width of 136 columns -- which will still be
considerably easier to read than 160.

I use 142. You need 141 to see all columns of lrecl=133 output
with edit because of the editor sequence numbers. 141 does work
with ISPF, but not with REVIEW (REVEDIT) as it only supports an even number.
