Hi All,
We are currently running Z/OS 1.4 on all our lpars. We now want to
upgrade to a newer release of the operating system.
Z/OS 1.8 will be available at the end of this month. Are there any
issues with going straight from Z/OS 1.4 to Z/OS 1.8. ???

It's outside the coexistence window. R4 will coexist with R5,
R6, and R7, but not with R8. Thus, you have no backout path if
you go from R4 directly to R8. I recommend you go to R7, and
thence to R8, to preserve a backout path.
(As a side note, others have posted that the coexistence window
is N+3 or N-3. This changes with z/OS R8. Now that we are on
annual releases, the coexistence has changed to N-2 [or n+2
depending on how you look at it]. So R6 coexists with R7 and R8,
R7 coexists with R8 and is planned to coexist with R9, etc.)
