So if the vendor does exist and  we take them at their word it is  
somehow feasible to do so. Like I  said I never did find the company  
or anyone that would substantiate  the claim.

It'd be tough on 3270. With INFO-Print you need the transform
FMID(free) and a suite of AFP2PDF,PCL,PS,SAP tranformers(not free)whatever  
your printers supported. 
 
With GDDM installed can use V instead of S in SDSF to View AFP output but  
the composition and rasterization is pretty awful with just a simple  OVERLAY.
 
Sort of went the other route with ePrint and let the enduser choose the  
printer. Normally in .pdf format. In transition use Lionel's XMITIP to deliver  
regular messages as attachments converted to .pdf with TXT2PDF even get green  
bar look and feel with watermark.
