As I stated, there's an established procedure for this:

    RESTORE USERMOD
    APPLY   PTF from vendor
    APPLY   USERMOD again.

Yes, this does particularly require that line numbers be stabilized
across vendor PTFs in the vicinity of the USERMOD.
