Ed,
Recently IBM had announced the transitioning of some 10K programmer
jobs from Europe and the US to India.
Perhaps the problems that we are seeing with IBMLINK is an
outgrowth of
that decision. Perhaps that is the 'outsourcing'
that Jon was referring to.
Brian you are correct. When I open ETRs on these problems the
respondants have very heavy accents. Not that I am a xenophobe but
I see
the quality (or lack there of) of work we get from outsourcers, so I
suspect that IBM has slipped down that slope also, to the detriment of
those of us who rely on IBMLINK.
Jon,
It does get into a hazy area. I know 10 years ago when I opened a
problem I ended up talking with a person from Germany. However in
discussing IBMLINK I think its important to differentiate IBMLINK
people and level 2 people. Overall I can honestly say I have had zero
issues with people on IBMLINK and some issues with level 2 people.
That being said, the current IBMLINK outages are at best outrageous
and if it were to happen at almost any other company would be grounds
for legal action. IBM, IMO is lucky that there aren't lawyers being
talked to about poor quality of availability.
It also makes a joke out of their availability claims for their
software/hardware claims. That in itself should be grounds for firing
several high level VP's and possibly a retirement of a one or more
board members.
