we have a special case of the mainframe operations merging but the other
agency still has its own network and a lot of non-mainframe computer
stuff
and we had to keep things running as un-interrupted as possible.

the network is the biggest headache - the powers that be refuse to allow
outside access to the mainframe except for certain internet ports. this
means that we cannot even get to the CICS TCP/IP and SOCKETS connections
in the CICS regions on this lpar.
Even though there is a city wide lan which most agencies are connected
to, this one agency (which has alot of clout and money) refuses to join
and we cannot get to theirs.

Oh, in that case (and I've been there), my response to them was "Do it
my way or shut up and go away." Luckily my management backed the
attitude of "no authority equals no responsibility".
