Ha... I thought so! ;)  Yesterday when I saw your tagline, I thought it looked 
familiar.  As in the same one as Jim Marshall...

I too tried to get into "DP" while I was stationed at Crystal City in the early 
70's.  However, the Navy would have nothing of it.  So I had to spend my own 
time after hours hanging out in the basement of the Pentagon learning from the 
DP night shift.  They were a smart bunch, especially one guy in particular.  
Unfortunately, his name escapes me at the moment.  He helped me quite a bit and 
gave me the Navy's blue DP book on Data Processing to study (which I still 
have) and also taught me how to wire boards.

Fun times...

It took me a couple of years after discharge to get my act together before I 
took my first real programming class.  Just kinda a wondered into it.  The 
rest, as they say, is history.  While it was not always fun, the worse time was 
when I first learned the "pitfalls" of SMP V3 (notice no "E"), but I would not 
trade it for anything.  Well, other than being rich of course. :)
