Hello, I am the BMC Product Manager with responsibility for the BMC AMI Storage FDR family of products. The SAR and SAD functionality is part of this family of products. The SAD and the SAR are actually unrelated features. The SAD (Stand-Alone Dump) is a process that takes a system dump when the system is locked up or otherwise compromised. You can not restore any backup files from a SAD. It is used for debugging purposes. The SAR (Stand-Alone Restore) is IPL-able code that allows you to restore volumes from FDR backups. The idea is to get enough of your volumes restored so you can IPL z/OS. Once that is done, you can do any any remaining restores when z/OS is active. The SAR is working and supported and some customers find it useful.
