I have migrated from one z/OS image to another several times completely 
satisfactorily.

- DFSMSDSS a group of data sets
- TERSE the output
- FTP to a small platform
- Reverse the process to go the other direction

Works like a champ. I don't recall any issues once I got going. I have PROCs 
and jobs to make it all easy.
