Off hand I don't know why there is a difference.  Regarding the smaller LMOD in 
V2, its possible the ++MODs from the FMID contain unnamed CSECTs which don't 
get replaced/deleted when the PTFs are applied in V1.  But that's just a guess, 
I'd have to see the APPLY output for both variants to debug further.
