The right nibble is never ignored.

If it is a valid digit, it is handled in the usual way for a digit,
by expanding it to a byte and storing it.

If it is a value in the range 1010 to 1111, ED sets the S-trigger
to zero if the sign is +.

There is an ambiguity as to how alternate signs are handled.
