I doubt that it will affect many that have not upgraded machines or OS's in years

They're removing support, basically, for anything that isn't a square tape, 3390 emulated in a storage array, or an OSA card's facilities (and they are removing the OSAD device, whatever that is). I would think thye're ripping out a great big pile of old code that realistically hasn't been touched in years. I'm not sure how many shops it would affect, but I would think the number is pretty small.
