Like others I find this difficult to diagnosis without a lot more
information.
I did not think that support when down to OS/390 V1.3. I thought it was at
OS/390 2.10
1) What type of Shark? 2105, 2107, etc... (DS8000???)
2) What type of 3590?
3) How were they genned?
4) What is OS/390 Running on? 3033, RISC, other Mainframe hardware (CEC)
Is this a guest OS/390 or actual OS/390 V1.3
Not all hardware is supported by this very old release of the operating
system. You will need to dig through IBM Link and the hardware manuals to
see if this configuration will work.

provided in OS/390 (MVS/ESA) operating system environments. The Magstar 3590
Tape Drives are supported through the 3590 Model A60 Controller for
attachment to FICON channels on the following minimum system levels.
OS/390 (MVS/ESA):
FICON channel support is provided in OS/390 Version 2, Release
6 and higher and in DFSMS/MVS Version 1.3 and higher. PTFs are required for
all current releases of OS/390 and DFSMS/MVS.
NOTE: For information about FICON channel support for OS390
(MVS/ESA) as a guest operating platform of VM/ESA, review 'Section 1.
General Information' in the VM/ESA subset of this 3590DEVICE upgrade
document.
Without more information there is not much we can suggest.
Have you taken a console or stand alone dump? Have you reviewed the LOGREC
to see what was going on?

Subject: OS/390 1.3 Support Element hangs system
Running OS/390 1 .3 - Every couple months the system hangs. Once I power
off/on the Support Element PC (OS/2), it breaks loose. This seemed to start
about 2 yrs ago when I replaced the Ramac disk with the Shark. Also
replaced 3480 tape drives with 3590.
Any ideas. I thought that once I IPL's the machine the SE pc was finished.
