I confess that I have not tested this maneuver. Doesn't the OSM screen close as soon as the operating system stops? Maybe not.
In any case, I do know this from experience: if the customer has configured any NIP console to an OSA device, NIP messages will go only to that device and not to the HMC at all. If a wait state occurs as discussed here, the OSA device will go blank as previously asserted. The only way to direct NIP messages to the OSM is to force offline (via HMC) the chpid that supports the OSA device in the IODF. Afterwards the chpid must be put back online in order to restore the operational environment. Speaking from experience, this is all doable with considerable care and effort. We're just in search of a simpler procedure, preferably one that can be dictated over the phone to the earnest individual who drew short straw for the night shift. Again. . . It was discussed on Fri, 18 May 2012 01:43:56 -0400 https://listserv.ua.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind1205&L=IBM-MAIN&P=R49539&I=-3&X=-&Y=d10jhm1%40us.ibm.com&d=No+Match%3BMatch%3BMatches I'll stick with what I said in that discussion - use Operating System Messages on the HMC as your NIP console.
