Google and my personal experience bringing in antiques cite 100 years and not 50.

Now 'antique' and 'antiquated' are closely related etymologically; but 'antiquated' is pejorative. To antiquate is to make obsolete, and I am not sure that z/OS is obsolete. In my personal view it is not, although it must be conceded that a good many of its stalwarts are at least obsolescent. The further, evolutionary development of what we have would, I think, be a better strategy than devising a new operating system. New ones are always unstable and full of omisses.
