IPL z/OS from a DVD?
Not exactly. You can run standalone DSS to restore disk image from the
DVD. Actually the program can be IPLed even from ftp location (as z/VM
installer), but the restore process can read only from HMC DVD. BTW:
dear IBM, please change it. Allow me to read disk images from my
workstation (ftp).
BTW: the same with COD on tape: you don't IPL z/OS from tape, you IPL
standalone utility form tape. It can be ICKDSF to format (init) the dasd
volume or dss to restore the volume from dump on tape file.
BTW2: nowadays you don't need ICKDSF before restore, AFAIK.
