My problem is, ISPF did recognize the backup file and I told it I wanted to

And you said you can see the user.**.backup. Hmmm, I tried unsuccessfully to
recreate it on z/OS v1.13 (yes, I know you're on 2.1).
When I was ready to edit and pickup from where I had been, it now does not
recognize that any recovery is needed, yet the backup data set is still there.
Does that means your user.**.backup was deleted? if so use ISMF to see where
user.**.backup is created and try to have it allocated somewhere else where it
will not be deleted quickly. (You said Friday it was timed out and you tried it
on Monday.)
No, it is still there (this is now Tuesday). The "DEFER" was
issued on Monday morning. So, ISPF/Edit saw this on Monday morning.
Do you have any ISPF exits (exit 16, I think) or macro (RMACRO)?
I honestly do not know. I am not invoking any macros, I'm running
vanilla -- I'm not under SCLM either.
Could you try to reproduce it with PDSE and again with PDS? Just make sure you
are the ONLY one using that member.
I am the ONLY one using the member, because there are only 3 of
us in my department not out for the next two weeks. And I am the
only one working on a REXX tool problem.
I talked to someone in our SYSPROG group (I'm Cap Planning &
Tuning these days) and they have tried to recreate this. They
have not been able to so far, either.
If you can reproduce it, I think you should raise a PMR.
Already opened one. But, this is where IBM falls down -- Use it
or lose it vacation and 24/7 support -- suffers terribly from
about 15DECxx of every year.
HTH!
