What this all really highlights is two issues: 1) the annoyance when an IPL fails due to a syntax error, but you can recover if you have multiple systems/rescue system with access to all DASD.
Or 2) you have a single system, and the system won't IPL, and you have no way to fix it. In today's environment, #2 should never happen, even in the smallest shops, even if you just have a rescue system that you IPL in the same lpar to fix stuff. _________________________________________________________________ Dave Jousma Assistant Vice President, Mainframe Engineering [email protected] 1830 East Paris, Grand Rapids, MIĀ 49546 MD RSCB2H p 616.653.8429 f 616.653.2717 -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Blake, Daniel J [CTR] Sent: Tuesday, September 29, 2015 11:10 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Parmlib syntax check macro Personally the best checker is IEIBALL - checking the syslog after an IPL. Doesn't help if the system won't come up, but a lot of errors can be bypassed during an IPL.
