My automation product allows me to define products separately from each other so that you can completely change the state of one and then use that to influence the state of other products. For special cases like OMVS/JES2 it allows you to define a script that will completely resolve the state of any given subsystem. So for instance when you shut OMVS down, it can look for conditions that prevent a complete shutdown, and take actions to alter its state.
