Thank you Bobby for confirming your parms/features. And thanks to Mark for the detailed explanations of them.
Like Bobby, we defined the drives in groups of 16 with different LIBPORT-IDs for each set. I think 16 is the maximum for MTL drives on a single control unit. For the record, the DLm hints that Lizette sent me off-list show definitions like Bobby's: SHARABLE, COMPACT, and 3490. I have emailed our vendor support people to ask about the theory that SHARABLE might only cause problems with 3590 devices. And I asked them to confirm that we're not supposed to define their drives with COMPACT. (Somehow I got the impression that the data will be compressed automatically when it reaches the Data Domain. Maybe we would use the COMPACT feature if we were writing to a different type of back-end storage device.) When this all gets resolved I will update the mailing list. Thanks everybody! Maybe 3490 vs. 3590 would matter for SHARABLE causing a problem.
