SHARABLE is an attribute that (almost?) no devices possess except disk. Tapes, for example, can be used by any system but by only one at a time, while 3390 can be online and operational to multiple systems concurrently. In the case of tapes, MIA for us handles the varying on and offline, but they have to be genned as SHARABLE=NO even though they are genned and cabled to all systems in the Enterprise.

The vendor told us to set COMPACT to NO. I don't know why we're still not using LOCANY. We probably should have changed that last century. As for SHARABLE, can all the LPARs in the sysplex share the devices if we set that to NO? The devices in the 3494 libraries are set to YES. That's not a problem but I don't know why you wouldn't want the UCBs in 31-bit storage. I also see COMPACT set to No and you would want that as Yes. You have SHAREABLE=YES and that could be the problem - set it to NO.
