And IBMLINK reps replied pretty to a PMR opened on SHOPZSERIES. To quote the reply: "The problem is definitely not you! There was a system problem that prevented z/VM 5.3 from being orderable on the announced date. The problem is actually in preproduction and affected not only ShopzSeries, but the regular configurator as well. No one can order z/VM yet. I've been told by Product Enablement that the product is being loaded today and will be orderable in the configurator tomorrow (for customers who wish to place their orders through a techline rep). I will update this record when I get a confirmed time when the product will be available through Shopz."
Not me... this time. :-) I'll post here when I hear, too. Somehow, I get the feeling that "techline reps" are going to have a busy day Real Soon Now. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but it seems that historically there is often one problem or another with ShopzSeries when a new VM release is scheduled for ordering. Maybe it just seems that way. It could be just chance... wait... they're coming for me!! Get them off me!! No, not the straight jacket again -- it's out of style, like a pastel blue leisure suit!! Get baaaacccccck, I say!! I tried last Friday June 15 but only z/VM 5.2.0 showed up. This has happened on ShopzSeries with previous "first day" VM order dates, so I called in. Very nice, polite people answered my call and said (as in past VM orders) that sometimes ShopzSeries needs an extra "24 hour cycle time" for new product order dates. Personally I find that pretty lame. If a product is announced as ready to be ordered on a given date, then all involved parties should work to make that happen, or publish word that the target date will be delayed. Maybe IBM should re-assign Jim Elliott to this? :-) So I waited until today, Monday June 18 to try another z/VM 5.3.0 order on ShopzSeries. Same result: only z/VM 5.2.0 is orderable. Maybe someone thinks it should be called ShopzOSseries? <sigh> I know orders won't start to be processed until June 29, but I don't really want to be forced to spend time trying each day until our two orders can be finally accepted.
