Comment #24 on issue 747 by [email protected]: Feature suggestion: Keyboard Shortcut for Specific IM
http://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=747

I have been using ibus-1.5 (the latest from git) for a few weeks now and the default way of switching layouts is very tedius for anyone that is working with more than 2 languages/layouts at the same time. I am now using the command line alternative as described in comment #20 and I am fairly happy with it.

In reply to comments #15 and #20, I would like to point out that neither solution is very user friendly for new linux IME users that require more than two layouts. The default because it is basically unusable in such scenarios and the other because it is non-obvious for new users. The issue with conflicting hotkeys is valid but really unavoidable and even ctrl-space conflicts with other applications. As such, the user will need to find non-conflicting hotkeys anyway. I will agree that there is some effort involved into implementing such a functionality properly.

Since ibus is looking to replace other keyboard layout switching methods in many distros, assigning this a lower priority is probably ok for now but I believe a WontFix likely isn't.
