Yes, this functionality is very important; it seems silly to me to lose
functionality just to please gnome; seeing from that link, a lot of gnome
users are also unhappy with the change.
Unfortunately I am not a programmer, so I cannot find out how to fix this
myself. Thank you for your efforts, even if you can make a patch that would
be helpful.
For now I have downgraded to ibus 1.4.2 so I can have a usable IME for the
time being; this seems to work fine for me once I recompiled all the input
engines, and until this bug is fixed somehow I guess I'll just keep using
this version if possible, otherwise I suppose I would have to try out uim
or something else. Hopefully before that happens ibus would be fixed though.
