I tried to narrow down the problem today and here is what I have found so
far:
commit: 53d33ec4e6ad41a116f25cfa7ce12e04f6f93752 (2011-08-16) changes the
default value of use_global_engine from FALSE to TRUE. However, non-global
engine still works if set use_global_engine to FALSE.
commit: 64f8274b599a4caa3e501e3a06cf8082db1d5475 (2012-01-05) switches
ibus-panel from gtk2 to gtk3 and will fail to switch to any engine with
use_global_engine patched to FALSE. The error looks
like "ibus-ui-gtk3:xxx): IBUS-WARNING **: panel.vala:108: Switch engine to
xxx failed.". Previous commit (a773bc6313763d828de015fcfd2b44ec10fb733b)
does not has this problem.
