Jack, It's hard to say. We don't know how your transducer was installed before.
We probably should have a discussion about Sealants. It's usually a good topic to kick around. Books talk about using all kinds of sealants.. Everything from plain old Silicones to Polysulfide's and Polyurethanes. and even Epoxies. Many folks like the "Boating Life series of sealants. especially the Mix of Polyurethane and Silicone. Claiming it's easier to remove. And a lot of us use good old 3-M stuff. I think it has a lot to do with What kind of transducer and it's mounting hardware, as to what and how to set it and seal it. I've read advice from many owners, who use... 3-M 5200 or 4200 Polyurethanes ... with a Fairing/backing... plate/board. Also set with the Poly. 5200 is often give a bad rap, but in an Underwater through hull application it's pretty darned Fool Proof.. When done correctly.. LOL The original transducer that was put in my 1984, Sealed with something like 5200, still is leak free.
