I posted a few pictures in the photos area under the title "internal transducer
mount".

The transducer that I am using is one that is normally intended for an external
transom mount, not sure if that's what came with your Humminbird. If so, in
order to set it up so that it shoots through the hull, it has to be submerged
in liquid. That's because the fiberglass isn't very opaque to the sonar
frequencies, but air will completely stop them.

The mineral oil seems to work well. It has never permeated or affected the
resin, and it hasn't gotten moldy or anything.

A regular through-hull transducer will work a little better of course, but
drilling a hole in the bottom of my boat while in the water is pretty high on
my "bad ideas" list. ;-)

Glad to provide additional detail if you want, just let me know.
