Derek,

We folks in Fresh Water have a much more important concern than Zinc Loss..
IMHO.
Fresh water marinas and the boats in them MAY be responsible for many Deaths.

While NOT likely to be a problem in Salt water, Fresh and brackish water
sailors should AVOID swimming in the waters between boats in marinas and
dockages where electrical service is used !
Encourage others NOT to swim in those locations as well..

It's thought that many deaths attributed to DROWNING .. May actually be
"Electrical Shock Drowning"..

See the following articles..
http://www.iaei.org/magazine/?p=1112
and....
http://boatingsailing.suite101.com/article.cfm/electric_shock_drowning

Fresh and brackish water presents HIGH Impedance (resistance) to current flow.
A "Body" has a much lower value.
A "Body" between an AC source and Ground represents a Low Resistance.. which
means.. Current flow through that Body.
And it takes a very small current flowing through a human body .. to KILL !

While the marina or dockage May be protected, The boat NEXT to you may NOT !

The Best answer is.... NEVER allow Anyone to swim in a Fresh water dockage !
PERIOD !

In doing a little reading. My boat is in fresh water, in which case zinc is
not reccomended. Folks are talking about magnesium. Should I even worry about
it in the great lakes for a boat that spends 4 months in the water?
