You didn't say how yours is rigged. Mine came with the backstay adjuster going straight down to the center of the boat. I changed that last year to open up the stern ladder. It is much like Phil's except my backstay splits about 7 or 8 feet above the stern of the boat still plenty of room to get to the stern ladder. I don't have any pictures could take some in the next few days. This past weekend, I finally completed the installation of my new Harken roller furler. Since the shape of the headsail is now pretty much controlled by the foil, is it necessary to have a backstay adjuster anymore? I would sure like to be able to have easier access to the stern ladder. Also, I can't see much benefit now to loosening the tension on a downwind run, and I worry that it might cause problems if I forget to snug it back up before trying to furl the sail.
