Subject: Re: [IC27A] Depth Sounder
Ralph, Where did you mount yours?
Ted,
I have an 1984 Standard cabin, Inboard Diesel boat
The Transducer is mounted
Port side, in the Engine compartment. Under the sink area, in my standard layout
It's an easy place for me to access. I have some physical limitations.
If I were to put it in a different place, I'd remove the molded-in battery
shelf under the V berth, forward of the holding tank.
I would be a long cable run, but nothing too bad.
I've heard of folks mounting them under the settee as well.
Frankly, I think the fact that Glued In-Hull mounting, almost Any where on our
boats, Even with a slight Angle, Is not much of a problem.
The Cone shape of most Pleasure boat transducers is so Broad that the small
amount gained by putting it forward and Vertical doesn't amount to much.
I might say that a lot of folks rig up a temporary Water filled container or
sticky tape down with some kind of glop...
heard of using things like "personal" jellies between the foot of the
transducer and the hull, kind of like ULTRA Sound tests,,,
Then that setup is moved around to different locations in the boat, making
several TESTS in Known depth locations....
Doing so would surely give one a better feeling of confidence of how it's
operating.
It's probably a good idea.
Regards,
Ralph Ahseln
