Unless you plan on racing or the sail is completely unusable I would probably
just sail with it the way it is.

A bagged out main isn't really all that big of a deal if you're just cruising
around.  $1,200 will buy a lot of other amenities that will make your first
year of day sailing and overnighting more palatable.

If the main is completely trashed and you're not racing you could also consider
a used sail from Bacon's:

      Hi Everyone,

New here, recently bought a 1978 Cat 27 and need a new mainsail. I tried to
"recover it" with SailCare but the price is to close to a new one from what I
have seen.

Any suggestions on buying a new sail? I am fairly new to sailing, had a Cat 22
before but never had to get a new sail. I don't race, not interested for now,
my wife and I cruise in the Long Island Sound, so I am looking for a main that
suits my sailing needs and my wallet (yes, price do matter, I've seen prices
from $1200 to $620<---Ebay, Kelly-Hanson)

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

-Abraham
