Mine lives in the cockpit aft of the tiller (she faces east). When I go out, I toss it into the port lazarette. It is (somewhat) permanently attached to the battery bank in that lazarette (’85, with the same problem from a different thread). We still don’t have power in our harbor, post Katrina and the panel keeps my batteries “full up when I show up”.

We are at a dock and have 120v all the time. I keep a small fan running to keep the air circulated and it does also run an automatic charger wired direct to the batteries. We don't have any mooring facilities here or near here. I can see that a trickle system would be great for boats that are moored. Do you do most of your sailing in the bay there or do you go out in the big lake (Pacific) west of you? Was ini SF once andl oved it. I must go back some time. The California coastline is a beautiful drive.
