Let me chime in on boat prices. My boat is 3½ seasons old, it is an ’81
outboard. I looked at maybe 25 or so Catalina 25s in my area when I
purchased her and the prices varied greatly as did the boats conditions. I
think boat prices are different all over the country, I bet you can get
boats for a song in Southern Louisiana these days with the oil mess. My
point is what is a good deal in one location might be a lousy deal
elsewhere. And likewise, one boat may be the perfect fit to one guy and
totally the wrong boat for another. Lastly, when one sells their boat you
must be honest with themselves about price. Boats are an emotional thing
and if you let your heart dictate price you will want a million and if the
buyer sees another similar for a lowball price you are SOL. All the extras
one puts on their boat (I just added self tailing winches for example) seem
to me to be window dressing. To the new sailor they are a non issue, to the
more experienced sailor they may well be the selling point, but I wonder how
much they boost the selling price of a boat? My Lewmar 30ST winches cost
plenty but I don’t expect to get that back. What price is fair is a hard
question, they only time we get an answer is when we have a sale.

Wow! I wasn't expecting to start such a discussion regarding boat
prices.....lol With a brand new North Genoa $1700 alone, the in board
diesel, and the overall condition of the boat, I think that the fact that I
am on the upper end of the average price that I see on line for this model
it is a reasonable price. In a perfect world I will have to moderate a
bidding war above asking price, in reality I hope to make a new owner as
happy with her as I have been for a fair price.
