Do you have a vang and is it hard on? If so, the main will swing freely less than you may be used to.

I just moved up from a O'Day 25 C/B. Love the Catalina. Amasing the difference in 2 feet. Question. On the O'Day if I released the mainsheet the mainsail would swing freely to almost 80-to-90 degrees off center. Whenever I got in a blow, just release the mail and dump the wind. On my 27C I release the mainsail and the boom will travel 5-to-10 degrees off center. That's OK if 5-to-10 degree adjustment is what I wanted. To get anything more I have to slack the mainsheet (lines run aft), leave the helm, and phyically push the boom out. If I ever have to "dump the main" forget it. It won't swing freely. Help!!!! How can I get the main to release quickly and freely?
