I agree with you Ralph. I love Hayden Bay. Such a nice clean atmosphere surrounded by the homes and condos of gated communities and the walking trail surrounding the bay. Makes it nice just to go and sit on the boat. It's worth the extra $$ in my mind.

This marina has a man made "Bay" almost a half mile long and about a football field wide, OFF the main river channel. That "Bay" allows me to raise and to drop sails in a Flat Calm, wind shadowed, low traffic area. Coming home after a day of sailing....We can sit outside in the bay, drop sails and go below to fix cocktails..then head for the slip..... it's so calm and peaceful. It's WORTH the extra bucks for that. Most other marinas one has to be secured before entering and there is no hanging around. Something else to factor in as far as moorage costs is.. No where on the Pacific Coast, from Canada to Mexico, Do we EVER have to take our boats out for Winter. No "On the Hard" for anything but servicing. So we don't have to keep paying for slips not in use. As one goes away from the Portland Area, Moorage costs drop a large amount. There is one little charming marina (sadly an hour and a half's drive away) where a Catalina 27 can moor for around $ 80 a month. And of course, there are Yacht Clubs that one can join that have low monthly dues,, but occasional Assessments can raise the yearly cost to a substantial amount.
