>>>> Yes, I did that too, not constantly though cuz I'd keep looking up at their face to see the expressions. Maybe I should make a grumpy face?
BTW, that's officially called the "mother-in-law look". :) It can be helpful - although I'd use it sparingly. At some point, I remember Pat also using the "border collie" analogy, where you sort of crouch down low (just a little really) and go after their rear end to make them disengage and step over. It might have to be a little exaggerated until they get the idea, and be sure to praise them lavishly when they get the idea, so they won't think you're a REAL predator...or a REAL mother-in-law! Have you seen anything like that in the new Level 1 - I don't remember seeing it there. Another thing Pat always says (no matter what the task of the moment) is "I've never seen this take more than two days." I think saying that serves two purposes - it makes the student laugh, and thus relax. And, once you get over the idea that something may really take a while to happen, you will relax, stop being so immediate-gratification-goal-oriented, and that too will help you relax. That was a huge problem for me at one time, and I still have moments where it is now. It was a big thing to me to learn that I didn't have to get results immediately...and ironically, as soon as I quit expecting quick results, the results came more quickly.
