After thinking about this, I guess it's interesting to explain how the topic came up. You know we have a good many young horses here? And how my husband has a new interest in working with some of them? His favorite mare is Maja, just started under saddle last summer - and very lightly started at that. Maja's now out on maternity leave. Cary absolutely adores her, and she's built sufficiently strongly to carry him...but she's not going to be in prime shape right after she weans the baby, especially not for someone his size. Shirley was brainstorming ways to keep Cary's interest in the young horses, by finding him a targeted exercise that he could do with his favorite mare, while also starting to get her back in shape.
