i saw shrake on rfdtv years ago, maybe five years? Anyway, he does this thing on teaching a horse to lead that is purely miraculous and very entertaining to try. Horses will instantly learn to lead. it involves a chain across the nose, but loose, in fact he goes on and on about how the whole thing is defeated if the chain gets tight. and then the lead has to go across the FRONT of your body and tuck in your pants. i know it sounds weird but I swear. i did it on several horses and in only about two minutes they were all leading mannerly at my elbow. I could video it maybe. i think it works because the lead across the front of your body is tucked in your pants, and the instant the rope is tugged even a little the lead slips out of your pants waist and the chain tightens on the nose and if you rig it the way he says to, as soon as he gets back beside your shoulder the chain loosens. Hard to explain! But fun to try :) That being said, a babied pampered spoiled loved to death horse might object to a chain, nasi did. he reared so I took it off him. and fox, oh my gosh, he had issues where that system wouldnt work, he would bolt thru the pressure as many horses will. Fox responded more to clicker stuff and much affectionate treating and loving.
ALSO tho, my friend ruth is in an electric wheel chair and man those things will break a horse to lead mannerly in about five minutes! They just wont fight it or encroach on it. (I am not talking fear based training in these cases, even the chain over the nose deal is not fear based) Janice -- yipie tie yie yo
