As a child, I wanted a horse very bad and the highlight of the week was to have my riding lesson. On my birthday, I would get to ride all day! Later, it became possible to "sponsor" a horse. We paid the board bill, it was like owning a horse but all the day to day maintenance, responsibility, and vet stuff was paid for by the owner. It was good for both the owner ( who had too many horses) and the rider. (who felt like she had her own horse)
